2017 MELBURN ROOBAIX | Ride Report

Melburn Roobaix - The Ride Report.

A light dusting of rain, a blustering breeze, and brilliant sunshine.  Just another perfect Melbourne winters day for the dozenth edition of Melburn Roobaix!

Thanks to all those who came, roll, dressed up, built rad bicycles, and shared the spirit of Roobaix.

If you've got ideas, images or videos to share - leave them in the comments.

Here's some of the colourful characters who made up this years field.

From one end of the spectrum to the other. Oscar @escargomoto designed and created this awesome bike - it is the Y-Cycle #ycycle (check out his other projects). I rode it and it was an amazing sensation. The front wheel seems to flop over, as you turn the bars. He and Jacob are mates. I know which bike I would rather take on a long ride. This bike won the pink prize. It is a single speed, 14mm BMX rear axel and has a few other BMX parts. I have a few more unique bikes to post. It was at today's Melburn-Roobaix #melburnroobaix. Thanks to @fyxo, @pinkbrunswick (Happy Birthday 🎉), @brunswick_cc , the sponsors and volunteers for making it happen. See you at the 2018 edition. @globalcyclingnetwork - it is a definite #gcnhack #singlespeed#aussieengineering#melburnroobaix2017 🚴🏻‍♀️ 🚴🏿 🚴🏻 #notbeachroad#pink#baaw#pinkbike#engineering#cyclinglife#melbournecycling#cx#steelisreal #alleycat #aussiecycling#baaw #notbeachroad #bikeporn #bicyclerace #fromwhereiride #cyclingmelbourne#ciclismo #cyclinglife#melburn#cyclingvideo #wymtm #roadcycling #outdoorisfree #goprocycling #strava #igerscycling

Here is one of the best bikes from today's Melburn-Roobaix #melburnroobaix. @jacobcruden has built a ripper. I think it is a king size frame. It weighs in at 40 kilos. It is always nice to see a steel frame bicycle. His sweatshirt says "Dream big". It has a bell but he can't reach it. The brake lever is on the top tube. The top tube rocked as he cycled along. I have a few clips of it in action, will post when I can. He did win the award for best (or was it most awesome) bike. I will be loading a video of it in action, soon. Thanks to @fyxo for having a great idea and making it happen. See you at the 2018 edition. #dodgy #gcnhack #aussieengineering#melburnroobaix2017#singlespeed 🚴🏻‍♀️ 🚴🏿 Lots of my pics from today are up on Facebook,?tge rest will follow. Please use and credit me if you do. 🚴🏻 #notbeachroad#bed#baaw#bedbike#engineering#cyclinglife#melbournecycling#cx#cyclocross#crossishere #alleycat #aussiecycling#baaw #notbeachroad #bikeporn #bicyclerace #fromwhereiride #cyclingmelbourne#ciclismo #cyclinglife#melburn #wymtm #roadcycling #outdoorisfree #goprocycling #strava #igerscycling

Melburn Roobaix Soft Goods

We sold out on hats and beanies on the day but don't distress - more are on the way so head to the shop for all the event goods including the box set of headset caps, cowbells and more.

The prize winners!

Cutest Couple

Voted by you - the people.  This supêr cute pair took home a luxurious $500 voucher for Notel Melbourne thanks to TAC.

Runners up took home $500 in gift vouchers to a range of great Melburn cafes and hotspots along the bike route - also thanks to TAC.

Awesome Foursome

This quartet of teenage engineers made a bicycle propelled 'Rocket' the night before Roobaix, sent Armstrong into space and won $200 in Temple Brewing gift certificates which I'm sure their folks are wrapped about!

Weight in Beer

Congratulations to Tim Pike who takes home 5 slabs of Bicycle Beer from Temple Brewing.

Best on Ground

A successful formula by rolling in the muddy banks of the Merri Creek ensured this champion went back-to-back with victory again in 2017.

Her reward was a Butterboom! Cookie Sandwich from Butterbing.

The Pinkest Rider

Oscar Felhberg was head to toe in pink, also building a custom pink bike.  He too took home an overdose of sweet treats in the form of a Butterboom Cookie Sandwich from Butterbing, slightly out-pinking a Fairy, Princesses, a Power Ranger and Dave Morgan who spent his birthday with all of us!  Thank you Dave!

Lucky Blue Bike Rider.

One lucky rider of a Melbourne Bikeshare bike who parked in the Bicycle Network Valet took home a RACV Resort voucher to the value of $500.

Nice work!

Spirit of Roobaix

Jacob Cruden rode a bed head with wheels.  Need we say more.  That's the spirit!

He took home a Coffee Supreme tote of caffeine related goods and a jar of Mum's Jam.

The GRAND Prize Winner

Vainqueur of Melburn Roobaix - Dean took home the Golden Pavé trophy and a GRAND cash.

Thank you's.

The event is the culmination of many great people and groups coming together.  It would not be as successful without mentioning the help of:
