It's not a race!

It is a wild and bumpy bicycle tour of Melbourne like you've never seen and you'll be rewarded for taking your time.

Distance / Elevation

42km / 300m if you follow the suggested route - shorter if you decide to take a long lunch and short cut to the end.

The route is NOT closed to traffic, nor is it compulsory to ride it completely or as suggested.

If you do follow the signs you'll find the route is linked by bike paths, cycle lanes, cobbled alleys, gravel tracks, fun detours and quiet streets.

The ride finishes at the World Famous Brunswick Velodrome where you'll find great food, drinks, activities to experience and fire kegs to warm your extremities.

We said it's NOT a race and we mean it.

If you don't include the incredible intangibles - this is some of the inclusions you can hold in your hand.

We keep a few up our sleeves for event day - who doesn't love surprises!

- An obscene amount of wheels to wonder at.

WHAT should I ride?

We could say a 'bike' but plenty of people have ridden a trike - or crazier still, a unicycle.

There is no event with a wider representation of all the bikes you could ride.

Road bikes, gravel bikes, track bikes, MTB, tandem, cargo, recumbent, bedheads, bikes with BBQ's on the back, and yes - e-bikes are most welcome.

The most bicycle inclusive event in the world.

What about kids?

Kids ride for FREE but must be accompanied by a guardian.

We encourage all Rad Dads and Kool Mums to pass on the cycling bug to their kids.

Enjoy all the activities of the ride but if you want the musette, schwag and all the trimmings, grab a ticket!

GOOD - BETTER - BEST

MEL>RBX

20 years of amazing events.

2006

Allez!

Advertised in cafes, bike shops and a blog - 100 brave souls turned up at Fed Square to ride north into the unknown.

Most of them finished in Brunswick velodrome, to a DIY Sausage Sizzle.

2007

It's back.

With no intention of repeating the inaugural event, word of mouth meant it instantly doubled in size.

On the other side of the world, Stuart O'Grady became the first Australian to win Paris-Roubaix.

2008

Hold this!

Riders get their first musette to carry their map and pen through Hell.

The first GOLD Pave trophy is won - randomly from a raffle with a 'meat tray' making up the other prize.

2009

Hotel Lomond

Still starting in Fed Square - 400 Riders attempted to cram into the Lomond Hotel front room for the last time.

2010

The map saga.

First year of online registration and the site crashed nearly every damn time!

Quickly outgrowing the limits of the Bicycle Victoria (Network) TravelSmart map, we made our own on thick card stock.

A new start location in Richmond by the banks of the muddy Yarra to suit the field size of 800.

2011

Pain is Temporary

Portraits are forever!

The iconic rider photos are introduced for the 1200 riders that rolled to Roobaix.

2012

2000 Roobaixers.

From Hawthorn Velodrome to Brunswick Veldodrome.

The Koppenberg becomes the new iconic sector due to its grade and length!

The Grand Prize is a trip to Paris to see Roubaix - worthy of the record field size.

2014

The wet one.

Torrential rain and flooded drains couldn't stop shivering souls making it to Roobaix.

A custom FYXO singlespeed was just one of the awesome prizes.

Entry is capped and it's a SELL OUT.

2015

10 years

A true milestone.

Stuart O'Grady traded lycra for denim and a hoody to revel amongst other Roobaixers. Phil Anderson also rocked the cobbles, and the in the spirit of 'Roubaix' the winner's trophy weighed 25kg!

2016

Under Construction

Riders finished in the park adjacent to Roobaix as the Brunswick Velodrome resurfacing begins and clubrooms upgraded from a shack and shipping container to the grand centre it is today.

2017

Mapei Madness

Perfect weather fell upon a fresh new track and Brunswick CC clubrooms.

The craziness was taken to new heights with a 'bedhead bike' crowned champion of crazy contraptions.

2018

Far Kew

The furthest start from Roobaix ever made for a very big day in the saddle.

The 'Bunnings Sausage Sizzle' trailer fed the people and won their hearts.

2019

Northcote Hell

Starting in John Cain Park in Northcote, Strava routing was introduced with QR Code technology that would soon become very useful for 'checking in'.

The last of the pre-COVID era and it was a banger!

2024

The Maddest of them all

From the huge Early Bird / Swap Meet / Show n Shine, to the cooling of the coals from the fire pits. We made it epic!

RIDE SAFE!
