BAUM Orbis Titanium Road Disc Bike | Dura-Ace Di2 Hydro

A modern road bike.

The BAUM Orbis is the latest model from 7 Seabright St, North Shore and its a stunner.

First, a musical soundtrack.

BOOM!

Where do you start?  The paint is a 90s slap in the face that might have people thinking of early Kleins, but it's actually inspired by a Fat Chance fade.  That's where the similarities end.  No decals or gloss on this interpretation.  The matte finish is microns thin, and smoother than a baby's bottom.  Running your finger over the finish and there is no discernible feel of the perfectly painted pin stripes and logotype.

Loud.  Fluoro yellow through green and blue, it pops louder than a sonic boom. The matching Silca frame pump is painted in the same scheme, with the fade matches the top tube in both horizontal and vertical planes perfectly.

Take away the paint and you are left with a custom fit TIG welded titanium frame, tubes butted to suit the pilot.  Reinforced headtube with internal headset, and an ENVE fork.  The Orbis has a redesigned rear end to suit a flat mount disc brake caliper and it's done in true Baum style.

A T47 bottom bracket allows the brake line to flow through the down tube, under the spindle and exit neatly along the chainstay.  There's some magic happening on the inside too to keep everything dialed.

GET BUSY!

It wouldn't be a Baum with Busyman Bicycles touch points and Mick Peel continues to do stunning leather work to suit out of kangaroo hide.

Grãvel

It's something worth mentioning the 'g' word because this is not a bike made specifically for the unsealed grãvel roads.  It's a modern road bike, designed to suit a 34mm measured tyre, with disc brakes now and thru-axle front and rear.  This bike can handle a range of surfaces, sealed or less than perfect with absolute confidence thanks to the handling, bigger bag tubeless tyres running at lower pressures, and the powerful and dependable disc brakes.

This ORBIS bike has the latest Dura-Ace Di2 Hydro ensemble, and the calipers are almost identical in size to the mechanical version.  The action resembles a caliper feel, and the power at hand will happily nose wheelie should you feel like showing off.

Buttons at the top of each control lever talk via bluetooth to your Garmin or cyclo-computer of choice.
