What is Gravel Camp?

What is Gravel Camp

Our number one source of fun has been riding remote roads, getting away from it all with friends for a weekend of fun - since forever.  Think of it as a one-night school camp for bigger kids who bike!

A  tent for two (shared with your Camp Buddy) will be set up awaiting your arrival, your dinner cooked, breakfast prepared the following morning, snacks mid ride and a post adventure feed - All included!

This is your best excuse yet to get out of town for a night camping under the stars and a full blown excursion of gravel practice on Sunday's Adventure Ride.

The Rubicon Valley is famed for its steep rocky climbs, wonderful views, powerful rivers and country hospitality and it's time you found out for yourself.

Leave your wallet in your sky rocket

That's right.

Gravel Camp entry includes food for the day.

A dinner & breakfast for those who are camping - and all Adventure Riders enjoy pre-ride brews, a mid ride revitalisation station to keep you fuelled and a delicious post adventure ride feed.

There will be beer available for purchase Friday night and Saturday at the end of the ride.

I don't want to camp - can I come for the Adventure ride?

Of course!  Enjoy the gravel packed Adventure Ride on Saturday.

The ride departs at a relaxed 10am so if you're coming from Melbourne there is no need to set your alarm for an ungodly hour and hastily head for Rubicon.   Take your time - put a podcast on and you'll be there in 2.

Sunday is when it all goes down, and UP and all the way back down again.

Can't make it for the whole weekend and Camp on Saturday?  The Adventure Ride will still pump all the adrenaline you need to have you grinning, panting and putting the 2021 ride in your calendar.

Entry to the ADVENTURE RIDE includes:

- A managed circuit of 100% gravel - 50km in length - 1500m of climbing.
- Mid ride revitalisation station to keep your engine fully fuelled.
- Post Adventure Ride feed.

Get the most out of your weekend

If you can happily knock out 100km on the road, you're nearly there.

The Gravel Camp Adventure Ride might seem short in distance at only 50km, but with 100% REAL GRAVEL, sweet singletrack bounded by the Rubicon River and serious elevation gains (1500-2000m) it should take you the best part of 6 hours (revitalisation stops considered).

We want to challenge you - not break you.

A revitalisation point midway will keep your engine stoked.

What skill level is required?

Everything* is rideable.

You may wish to alight from your bike if the grade gets too steep or you run out of juice.  The best excuse is to 'stop and take a photo'.

There are heaps of bumps, dips, ruts and corrugations for you to put your skills to the test or develop them along the way.

There is one mildly gnarly descent and it's gnar factor depends solely on your desired speed.  At a crawl it's comfortable - at warp speed it's wicked.

All rides have inherent risk, but we think it's significantly safer than commuting along the High st or repetitive laps of the Boulie.  Working closely with the Murrindindi Cycle Club and DEWLP we have secured a fantastic route,  managed roads and minimised traffic.

It is NOT a closed course,  but we have traffic management in place for the short amount of shared roads.  We asked those big logging trucks to take the day off, so you'll probably encounter less than a dozen cars all day long.  When you do, be sure to give them a wave!

There is LIMITED phone reception in the area, vastly affected by your network provider.

The last drop bear sighted was in 1987 by the Mayor of Rubicon on Old Tom Burns Track.

Officially - No.

We all know it only takes two people to have a race, so if sprinting for signs is your thing, challenge a mate up the steep stuff but make sure you stop to admire the wonderous landscpae and chill on the descents - they've got teeth of their own.

The Adventure Ride is predominantly fire roads, a sprinkling of 4WD access tracks, and dusting of singletrack / walking trails.

Road rules apply at all times, as does the #1 rule in life - Don't be a dick.

Not a party pies, or fairy bread in sight!

We have a qualified Chef du Gravel preparing wholesome and healthy home cooked meals. Snacks and treats by Melodie baked in the FYXO kitchen so you know it's good.

Everything is vegetarian, packed with goodness with vegan options at every point.

Dinner and Breakfast is included for Campers - with pre-ride brews, snacks and post ride feed for those coming for Sunday's Adventure Ride.

Special Dietary Requirements.
If you have an intolerance to dairy, anaphylactic to sesame seeds or vegan preferences, we want to know.  Our partners in all food fine know this subject inside out and will take care of you.
