Follow the footloose and fancy free adventure of the Morton’s, Gus and Lachlan as they pedal through Colombia.
Thereabouts 3 is the third instalment from the brothers and is a fantastic postcard from a beautiful country that is known for its cyclists, coffee and coca.
It’s also a great reminder that while France (and its neighbours) have the Alps, there are mere pimples on the planet compared to the Andes of South America, which Colombia has a pair of monsters 5775m in stature.
As an U23 rider Lachlan Morton was touted as the “next big thing” in Australian cycling and no-one batted an eyelid when he secured a contract with World Tour team Garmin-Sharp at the start of 2013. After two years at the highest level of racing, Lachlan was struggling to find the motivation to deliver on his early promise and eventually walked away from the sport.
After many months away from competing, he re-discovered his love of cycling which he documented with his brother Angus in ‘Thereabouts’ where they rode from Sydney into the middle of the spiritual center of Australian to Uluru.
This ‘back to basics’ approach also reignited Gus’ love for the sport which he quit far too soon. The brothers lined up a contract with US domestic squad Jelly Belly-Maxxis in 2016 and had a ball racing together. This fresh perspective on riding and racing resulted in Lachlan taking out the Tour of Utah in a dramatic win.
Going into 2017, Lachlan earned himself another shot at the World Tour after signing with Dimension Data. But before he took that step, the Morton brothers wanted satisfy their desire to keep exploring.
In Thereabouts 3, Gus and Lachy explore the difficult riding and the amazing cycling culture of Colombia which has produced some of the finest road cyclists of past and modern eras. It also progresses their own personal story of how the two brothers have come back to race professional together and how Lachy is now taking the step back up to the World Tour.
