SPEEDVAGEN ROAD – KATAKANA CAMOUFLAGE
This rolling piece of art from Portland is one of the resulting Speedvagen builds from the Melbourne leg of the SVFitTour. A classic road bike with caliper brakes – an increasingly rare stallion on the road – coupled with the stunning Surprise Me scheme from last year. A true unicorn.
Campagnolo Super Record gets a rare look in, where SRAM and Dura Ace are increasingly ubiquitous for component choice.
The cockpit is a one piece addition, painted to match the frame and seat topper. It’s a fantastic combination of form and function alone, and when blended in the rest of the bike makes it look like the waiting jaws of a hammerhead.
Whether it was intentional or not, the bike is nicely camouflaged in its new home, particularly now that everything is starting to blossom.
Details galore to explore like the standard BEZERKER dropouts.
Then there are THOSE stays that bend and sway.
Doesn’t get any more Melbourne than kangaroo leather bartape from Busyman – just north of river, with a short detour via Portland, OR.
The 2015 Surprise Me scheme begs you to look closer for more reveals and pops of colour – and unicorns.
Underneath the paint is custom drawn Columbus and True Temper steel, with stainless face plates for all component contact points. Dissecting the top tube is a carbon Easton tube, fitting precisely into the bottom bracket. An ENVE Speedvagen seat topper sits atop for a lighter and more glorious result.
It’s an ENVE-able bike.
Just when you thought the bling was about to run out – painted hubs and silver spokes. Bring back those shining/spinning blades of steel. Pops like a cap gun in the sun.
Who knows where this Unicorn may appear – but if you see it on the road be sure to give it a wave as it rides the rainbow of bitumen.
