The name Pantani conjures up images of bold attacks, ascending life a bird in the drops and descending like a devil behind the saddle.

1998 saw a breakthrough year for Marco Pantani of Grand Tour victories. After capturing the Giro and the heart of Italy, he backed it up a month later to win Le Tour de France.  A feat putting him in a class of only 7 others.

The Bianchi Mercatone uno team combined two Italian giants and the bike painted in their respective colours.  ‘Giallo’ for Mercatone and the famous celeste of Bianchi.

Equipped with the highest tier Campagnolo Record 9s – which was only it’s second year of production in 1998.

Pantani and his team rode an alloy version of this frame, the bike pictured features a lightweight Boron steel with beautifully bowed seat stays.

Thanks to Mascot Cycles for use of the bike and the Pantani display banner.
